Critical Care International were contracted to design an evidence-based sustainable healthcare strategy for the ten communities local to a mine site in sub-Saharan Africa. To inform prioritization of future projects to local health needs, CCI collaborated with the national government, national and international research institutions, NGOs and local communities, to undertake a methodologically robust community health needs assessment .
The results of this study enabled CCI and the client to accurately understand patterns of local disease and informed the development of targeted projects to effectively and efficiently improve the health of local communities. The data collected act as an accurate baseline to allow the impact of interventions to be assessed. The implementation of these recommendations has strengthened the client relationships with local communities and is ensuring a legacy of sustained positive impact in local communities.
